Hello students!

For this week, we will be trying out a craft, a harmonica shaped instrument!

You will need:

1 Tongue depressor

2 Large Rubber bands (The thicker the better), 2 small and thin rubber bands.

3 Card Stock

4 Tape

Steps:

1. Color the tongue depressors to your taste (optional)

2. Wrap the rubber band around the tongue depressor

3. Cut a 2x2 in. piece from the card stock.

4. Fold that piece in half, x 3 times.

5. Grab and fold a piece of tape and roll it so that its sticky on all of its sides.

6. Put the piece of tape on the 2x2 in. piece of cardstock.

7. Grab a 2^nd tongue depressor, put the piece of 2x2 in. square of cardstock close to one of the ends of the depressor, but leaving a bit of space (refer to video).

8. Repeat steps 3-6.

9. Grab the square of cardstock and tape it on the other end of the tongue depressor from step 7.

10.Grab the 1^st tongue depressor and the 2^nd tongue depressor, stick them together to form a sandwich!

11.Take 2 smaller rubber bands and rub it around 6 to7 times on each end of the harmonica.

How to make a Kazoo:

You will need:

1 Cardstock/Thick Paper

2 Scissors

3 Tape (any kind)

4 Wax paper (1 sheet)

5 Rubber band

Steps:

1 Fold the piece of thick paper in half.

2 Cut in half with a pair of scissors

3 Roll it around to make a cylinder.

4 Using any type of tape, tape each end of the cylinder

5 Grab the sheet of wax paper, cut it in half.

6 Take the piece of wax paper and hold it above the cylinder and wrap it around.

7 Grab the rubber band and wrap it around x 4 times.

8 Test it!

Week of May 4 – 8^th

Hello students!

For this week, I will provide you with a brief read about music related careers!

Your task will be the following:

1. Read the variety of music related jobs that are out there.
2. Research something that you would like to do when you grow up.
   1. Example: If you like math, look for math related jobs in Google.
   2. Example: If you like what doctors do, you may look for other jobs that are related to the medical field.
3. Write 1-2 sentences stating what career/job caught your attention.

  • What do they do:
    • Deals with legal aspects (writing contracts, copyright issues, making sure agreements are satisfactory, overseeing intellectual property concerns).

    • What do they do:
      • Create websites to keep fans informed and engaged.
        • You need to know a lot of tech skills and graphic design abilities.
      • Video Game Designer or Sound Designer
        • What do they do:
          • Compose the music that will be used in the videogame.
          • Design sounds according to the game’s needs.
        • Concert Promoter
          • What do they do:
            • Booking venues, decide the pricing, and other logistics to get singers/musicians onstage.

Week of April 27 – May 1

Hello students!

We will be revisiting the importance of learning song names/lyrics.

As you may recall, I often asked for the name of your favorite songs/singers/bands.

I will give you some strategies/tools for you to more easily remember lyrics.

Strategy 1:

• Analyze the song lyrics:
  • Is there a story to it?
  • Look up words/phrases you don’t know the meaning of.

Strategy 2:

• How does it make you feel?
  • Think and connect how every word and phrase makes you feel (emotions).
  • When you see a word/phrase, think of an emotion (happiness, anger…) and connect it.

Strategy 3:

• Write it down.
  • Feel free to go the extra mile and write down the lyrics of a song onto a piece of paper.
    • Did it become easier to remember the lyrics?

Strategy 4:

• • If possible, find the karaoke version of the song and exercise your brain into remembering and singing the lyrics!

The more you give your brain the opportunity to learn lyrics, the easier it will become for later songs.

Challenge:

Feel free to send a text/video/audio to your corresponding teacher of a song that you really wanted to learn and that you finally managed to learn the lyrics by memory. Also, you may let them know if any of the above strategies worked for you, or maybe you have a different way of remembering.

Week of April 20 – 24

Hello students!

For this week:

We will be going over games at home that you could try with your peers/family that live with you.

I will be laying out each game below, along with their corresponding rules & music playlists.

Feel free to challenge yourself & your family to bring a great performance!

Game 1:

Dance with Props

You will need:

1. Music Player (Stereo, T.V., Computer, Tablet, etc.; feel free to use a playlist that I will leave down below).
2. Props – hats, balloons, ribbons, pom-poms, wigs, teddy bears, flowers, and so on.
3. Space to dance.

How to Play:

• Create a dance floor – Make sure to remove any items that may be on the way ( make it safe)
• Place and organize al the props on a single location, ex. On a table, on 1 side of the room.
• As soon as the music is played, the kids/players need to run to the table and pick/wear an accessory from the table.
• Dance away using the prop(s) you chose.
• When the current song ends, put away the prop(s) you picked.
• When the music starts again, kids/players go back and pick another prop and continue to improvise a dance for the next song.

Game 2:

Musical Statues

You will need:

1. Music Player (Stereo, T.V., Computer, Tablet, etc.; feel free to use a playlist that I will leave down below).
2. Space to dance.

How to Play:

• Play the music and ask the kids/players to start dancing.
• When the music stops, everybody freezes!
• For 1 minute, nobody moves, the first person to move/giggle/wobble loses!
• When the music is back on, they continue dancing.

Extra: Challenge your family! You may do a scoreboard on a piece of paper and based on who scored the least amount of points, may have a to do a house chore!
